In 1973 a United States Navy DC plane ran out of fuel & crashed on the black beach on the South coast of Iceland.
The epic planewreck on this desolate black beach is such an eerie sight. This was high on our list of places to shoot & we waited for a relatively clear afternoon & when the Aurora was high on the forecast. We made our way out here after a very long & flat walk across the plain. We found it very hard to get a good composition of the plane. After a lot of deliberation though, we found the best framing for this image wasn’t that of the rule of thirds adhered to by most photographers when composing an image, but that of the wreck simply placed centre of frame.
We wanted to put our own spin on this incredible place & decided to go for a reverse sunset as we really loved the pink hues in the high clouds & the waxing crescent moon just added more drama to the scene.
