Tweed Hinterland, NSW. Australia.

from 200.00

Perched high in the hills on the border of the Tweed & Gold Coast, for many decades now, this incredible Aviation Tower over sees & assists air traffic control at the GC Airport. This tower maybe old but it is dwarfed in comparison by the 13.2 billion year old Milky Way that watches above.

Photographing the Milky Way is something we both truly enjoy. Our goal though, is being unique to other photographers and showing it in a different way to how you’ve seen it before. Earlier this year we just happened to see this Tower in the hinterland while driving around the Gold Coast. The only problem was finding this tower on the ground… it was MUCH harder than we thought. Thanks to hours on Google Earth, researching Milky Way movement and a few phone calls to the Australian Aviation we planned our trip.

At midnight, we made our way through farmland, under electric fences (we found that out the hard way) and a long hike to the top of the hill where we arrived and set up. We waited a few hours in the freezing sub temps as the Milky Way aligned. We’d waited a LONG time for this moment and with clear winter skies it all just came together perfectly. This is the first ever shot from here which makes all the patience and hard work even more worthwhile!
