STUNNING!!! This is just one of those magical shots…

The Obelisk (beacon) is just an amazing icon & something we’d been dying to shoot on our trip around Australia. It was erected in 1852 and was used to navigate ships & store rocket lifesaving equipment. The firing of rockets, carrying baskets to distressed ships to bring passengers ashore, saved many lives so it’s great the local council have left it standing as it is today.

We’d allocated 3 days to shoot here & got a variety of images, but on this particular afternoon we were treated to this incredible display of colour! This is a single shot, 2 minute long exposure & it worked perfectly as it really gave some texture to the image between the soft pastel sky & the sharp rocky headland. Unfortunately, due to the erosion of the land surrounding the obelisk, it will mean it will eventually fall away so make sure you visit this icon if you are visiting South Australia.
